Exhaust and Engine Bars

28th May 2003

Well, after much saving I finally had the cash for a new exhaust and arranged to have it made at OS Stainless. I heard him about through the MZ riders club as he supplies replacement stainless silencers for the MZ 2 strokes.
I had been to see Roy at OS two weeks earlier and discussed what I wanted. He had made the silencers and had them polished, then I went down with the Griphin to have them fitted.

Using an ingenious mandrel bender of his own design, the bends where put in the 1.6mm walled 304 stainless tube.

Then the inner pipes where fitted and angled to meet the outers.

And very skillfully TIG welded to make truly origanal exhaust down pipes.

The silencers are just a nice tight sliding fit that doesn't require any clamps. Once the mounting brackets were welded on, the silencers where given a further polish and the pipes given a going over with a linisher. The final polishing will happen after the system has settled in and built up some carbon.

The difference in engine performance is instantly noticeable on acceleration and the sound is much nicer and mellower (and is getting mellower as carbon builds up). The system come's with a 10-year guarantee and is well worth the extra over a standard system. Check out the OS site here.

Got the stainless engine bars from Roy at Os stainless fitted to bike.

Looks incredibly better being made out of thinner diameter tube, but thicker walled so stronger. Once again, very impressed by the standard of Roy's work.
